Dan Anderson: Prayer and Support

Hey Sometimes Campus ministry is just plain weird. At around 11am this morning I was nearly elbow deep in penne pasta trying madly to cook dinner for 60 people. I’m currently nervously waiting to see if I managed to pull it off without killing anyone (should know by tomorrow morning I think, after that it would be too difficult to prove and I’m home free…)
PastaThis evening was our weekly ‘Prepared to Serve’ (PTS) ministry training time. We have about 60 students enrolled. Each week we spend an hour together thinking through a theological/ministry topic before breaking off into smaller training seminars. I’m helping to co-ordinate the all-in time (we’re working through a theology of evangelism focussing on ‘connected with God, connecting with others’) and I’m also helping to run a seminar on leading bible studies. And as I discovered this week, sometimes I get to cook dinner.

Thanks so much for your support and prayer. Last week I found myself really struggling with questions about whether this ministry is really worth all the time and energy we devote to it. But I’ve been reading through 2 Corinthians with some of the guys on campus and was encouraged by Paul’s description of the glory of New Covenant ministry. Paul certainly doesn’t look glorious to the Corinthians, but the ministry he does is even greater than Moses’. The reason? “For if what was fading away was glorious, what endures will be even more glorious.”

(2Corinthians 3:12 HCSB). Those gospel conversations might not look like much, but whether it’s on campus or at work, those shared gospel words with a friend are unmasking a glory that will outlast the sun.  “Therefore, having such a hope, we use great boldness.” (2Corinthians 3:12 HCSB).

In love,
Dan Anderson

Pray for a cake stall we are running on Tuesday (29th March) to raise funds for Japan. One of the students is really passionate about acting out the reality that Jesus rules by caring for people in need. It’s a great reminder for us all that a gospel without implications is just a pack of lies. Pray for the students as they work as a team, seek to be friendly, and seek to show the kind of love and graciousness that God has demonstrated toward us. Baking for Jesus!

Pray for our Lunchtime Bible Teaching. This week we move from Romans 2:1-3:14 (Paul’s summation of the guilt and condemnation of all people apart from Christ) to Roman 3:21-26 (the message of God’s free justification through Jesus). It’s been a few tough weeks for the students, looking at passage which focus on judgement. Pray that the message of grace will be clearly and powerfully presented and the Holy Spirit will call people to respond.

Thank God for opportunities to support work on the nearby campus of the Australian Catholic Uni. I’m meeting regularly with a student leader of the ‘Evangelicals on Campus’, a group that affiliated with AFES last year but currently has no staff support. I’m going to be speaking at their Easter Mission in April. Pray for a faithful loving witness to Christ from students at ACU as it is a particularly difficult campus environment.

Evangelical Christian Union
The Evangelical Christian Union is an interdenominational and multicultural Christian group on campus. It is affiliated with the Australian Fellowship of Evangelical Students (AFES). Our aim is to urge all people to live with Jesus Christ as Lord. We pray that every student and person in the health system would respond to the gospel.
