Knowing God - beginning

Q: Where do we begin with knowing God?

A: humbly, asking him for this grace, using the means which he has given: his word.

“How happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path of sinners, or join a group of mockers! Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction, and he meditates on it day and night.” (Psa 1:1-2 HCSB)

– what a blow to our theological pride.

We don’t start by doubting all that can be doubted – to boil off the dross and come up with the gold standard truth about God.
We don’t start with ‘faith’ (it’s a theological construct to name something we only know about in hindsight)
Nor Church, wisdom, creation, Christ, the Cross, or the Eschaton.

Systematic Theology starts with Delight.

His delight is in the Lord’s instruction.
